Wedding invitation wording in Greek and English: what to include | DreamyCard

A practical bilingual wedding invitation structure: names, invitation wording, your story, programme, RSVP and a readable personal photo.

A warm invitation can still be wonderfully clear. Give the guest the essentials first, then use optional sections to add the personal details that make the celebration yours. These are writing prompts, not a story invented for your relationship.

Begin with names, a welcome and a date

Use the names exactly as you want guests to see them. A simple English welcome might be “We would love you to join us as we celebrate our wedding.” A Greek version can be “Με χαρά σας προσκαλούμε να γιορτάσετε μαζί μας τον γάμο μας.” Adapt the tone to your family instead of filling every line with formal wording.

Put the start times and venues in the programme, not inside a long subtitle. That keeps the first screen elegant while giving the full details their own readable place.

Add your story only if you want to

A wedding story should sound like the couple, not a generic romantic paragraph. Share a small real memory, how you met or what this next chapter means to you. You do not need to include a proposal story, exact dates or personal information you would rather keep private.

The optional wedding Our Story section supports a short introduction and up to four moments. Each moment can have a title, an optional date or phrase and a short memory. A single thoughtful paragraph is enough; an empty optional section should stay off.

  • Describe one real memory in your own words.
  • Keep other people’s private details out of the shared invitation.
  • Preview the story in both languages before publication.

Translate for understanding, then check the details

Bilingual guests need clear information, not just translated headings. Check names, Greek accents, venue spelling and practical instructions in the complete English and Greek previews. Automatic translation is helpful but does not replace the host’s review.

Select the main invitation language and explicitly include the second language when you need it. Do not assume a guest can infer an address or an RSVP instruction from another language.

Use a photo that works with the stationery

A personal cover photo is optional. Pick a clear, high-resolution image with room around the faces, then adjust its focal point in the editor. A vertical composition often works well on a phone, but the actual preview is the deciding check.

Your theme continues into the programme, story, information and forms. Check that names are readable over the image and that the photograph does not hide the reason guests opened the invitation. You can remove the photo to return to the theme artwork.

Make the reply request unmistakable

Say when you need the reply and collect the party size you actually need for catering. If only some guests are invited to dinner, set that up through the guest-specific dinner flow. Do not include restricted reception details in a general public note.

Before paying to publish, open the full card rather than relying on the cover thumbnail. Read it as a guest: where do I go, when do I arrive and how do I reply?

  • Review the exact ceremony and reception start times.
  • Check both languages and every directions link.
  • Make sure optional music and media collection match your choices.
